Pedersen and Company, PLLC opened in Boise, Idaho in 1994, to provide a wide range of intellectual property legal services to clients in Idaho, across the U.S., and overseas. Ken J. Pedersen and Barbara Schaefer Pedersen have over 50 years combined experience in patent law, and have written, prosecuted, and issued nearly 500 U.S. patents. By searching the U.S. Patent Office website (www.uspto.gov) for patents with legal representation (LREP) by “Pedersen; Kenneth J.” or “Pedersen; Ken J.” or “Pedersen; Barbara S.”, one may see many examples of our patent preparation and prosecution, and the wide range of our clients and of the technical fields in which we practice. Prior to our careers in intellectual property, we worked as engineers in industry, including in petroleum process R and D and plant start-up, operation, and trouble-shooting. This engineering experience enhances our understanding of the practicalities of design, manufacturing, marketing, operations, project economics, and other “real-world” concerns.

Ken’s practice currently focuses on intellectual property litigation, licensing, patent prosecution, and trademark and copyright matters, while Barbara’s practice focuses entirely on patent writing and prosecution and on advising clients regarding patenting strategy and layering of patent protection. We serve our patent clients by patent searching and preparing and prosecuting chemical, process, and mechanical patents and light electrical patents. Our clients include universities, medium and small businesses, and independent inventors, with portfolios in a wide variety of fields, including water filtration media and processes; analytical sensors; materials science including magnetoplastic materials and nanoparticle compositions of matter; tools and machines; renewable energy and fuels; chemical, semi-conductor manufacturing and nuclear processes; and the “traditionally western” fields of agriculture, food processing, wood products, ammunition and firearms, and recreation and
sporting goods.

We offer new clients an initial telephone consultation to discuss the client’s project and answer general questions about intellectual property protection. If you prefer, or if multiple people want to meet with us, we are happy to schedule an in-office initial consultation, the first 20 minutes being at no charge. Please contact our firm for our proposed Retainer Agreement, which explains our rates and

standard procedures.

We have many years of experience and will work hard for you and/or your client. Please let us know if you want more information about our firm.
